Those of us who live and breathe ancient skills and nature awareness are often faced with a dilemma when we make the decision to share with others what we have learned. We are people who are passionate about what we do. We believe in living close to the earth, and we teach from the heart. The dilemma is that in order to share these earth skills we have to jump feet first into the modern world of business... we have to spread the word about who we are and what we have to offer.
Here at Hollowtop Outdoor Primitive School, LLC we are working to more effectively get the word out about the many talented individuals, couples, and families around the country who want to invite you into their lives to share what they have discovered. In essence, it boils down to "economies of scale": by working together we can reach out far more successfully than if we each try to do it all alone.
There are many of us around the country now, tucked out-of-the-way in backwoods canyons, or making camps and practicing skills in thick tangles of brush along the edge of suburbia. Collectively we have more classes in more locations than ever before, so you can always be assured of finding the specific instruction you want. Check out the above links for schools, classes and gatherings in your area, and please let us know if there are any errors to correct.

Hi there!
I just ordered and received Participating in Nature. I have been interested in primitive skills for a while, and have practiced some, but your book has opened whole new doors for me. I live in Taiwan, so the ecosystem is quite different, and I am trying to learn the plants here (no books in English, though I can muddle through some Chinese books), but of course many of the skills are pretty much universal, and my girlfriend and I are having a lot of fun practicing new things. Our first day out, we made ashcakes for the first time and loved them!!!
I simply wanted to let you know that your book has made a profound impact on me, and I want to thank you sincerely for putting out this kind of information (that - granted - I should have learned for free from my ancestors and been practicing all my life). I am looking forward to the day that I can go hike into the woods with nothing more than a knife and my tire sandals.
